How to check for water leaks

This is a simple leak test to detect water leaks on your property. Things to remember before and during your test begin.

1. Water meters are always located outside the homeowner’s property boundary inside a wooden or concrete box.
2. Choose any 2 hours where water is not consumed at all. Ideally, a time during the late-night is better.
3. Make sure not even a drop of water is used during the test. Check your dishwashers and washing machines.
4. During this 2-hour test never turn off the water main tap. This would help you to see any changes in the meter dial. If the meter dial changes it indicates a water leak.
5. Remove the lid of the water meter box to find the water meter. Note down the meter reading at the point where no water is used. We suggest you take a picture of the meter reading.
6. After noting down the reading on the water meter close the lid and wait for a minimum of two hours.
7. After the preferred waiting opens the lid and takes the meter reading again.
8. Make sure that you close the lid after taking the second reading.
9. Compare both readings. If there is a variation it can be concluded that you have a water leak.
